I’d recommend performing a meditation like this daily, Seeker. However, you should remove parts that don’t serve you, and add parts you find yourself. As always, Seeker, my words are not law – but if this works as well for you as it has for me, there is no need to change it. I myself based this meditation upon the work of another.
First, set up your space.
This space should be reserved specifically for meditation and ritual, if possible. A room in your abode should be segregated as your chamber. However, if you can’t create this space, than any space you are will have to do.
If you need physical assistance to perform this, don’t be afraid to ask for help, if it’s safe. Another can set this up for you. You may also perform any meditation alone or with company.
Lights should be off and windows, if present, should be covered. Blackout curtains are best, blinds are fine. The goal here is to create a room completely enveloped in darkness before you begin. If you cannot create a dark space, you will not benefit from this meditation.
The temperature of the room does not matter. I tend to find that a slightly uncomfortably cold room leads to a more intense, but shorter meditation; while a slightly uncomfortably warm room leads to a longer, but more difficult meditation.
Place a candle of any size, preferably unscented and black, red, or purple, in a place that is safe to burn. Don’t just rest it on some carpet, don’t set your abode on fire. I use a small coffee table and I place my candle in a ceramic candle holder.
Surround where you will sit with pillows, if you need. This will make going limp later in the meditation easier and safer. Don’t bump your head.
Now, begin the meditation.
Stand before the unlit candle, with as perfect posture as you can. Feet shoulder width apart, back straight, head forward. You should be looking down at the candle without tilting your head down. Rest your arms comfortably, whether this is at your side or clasped behind your back or in front of you. Choose a stance that brings you a sense of confidence. Take a deep breath in through your nose, then out through your mouth. Recite the Sith code aloud, if able:
Peace is a lie, there is only passion
Through passion, I gain strength
Through strength, I gain power
Through power, I gain victory
Through victory, my chains are broken
The Force shall free me
You may say the code in your head if it is unsafe to speak or if you are unable to do so for any reason. Then, light the candle. Use a match if possible. Sit in a comfortable position on the floor, if you are able. The importance is that you are as close as you can be to the ground and comfortable – being in a wheelchair or being unable to sit in anything lower than a standard chair will not hinder you. Breathe deeply throughout the entirety of the meditation – in through your nose and out through your mouth – and physically relax. Close your eyes and do the following exercises to help you loosen your muscles if you are able:
Slowly roll your head.
Relax your jaw.
Roll your shoulders.
Roll your wrists.
Crack your knuckles if you desire.
Move your torso from side to side, bending at your pelvis, and back and forth. Stretch your back.
Stretch your legs out.
Roll your ankles.
Crack your toes if you desire.
As you relax, you should feel your body becoming heavy. Do not fight this feeling. Allow your body to relax. You may repeat any exercise as much as you want. Once sufficiently relaxed, focus on the path of your breath through your body.
Feel the air entering your nose, filling your sinuses, traveling down your throat, filling your lungs, traveling back up your throat, and out your mouth. After three breaths, switch to breathing out your nose. Instead of exiting your mouth, feel the air refill your sinuses and exit your nose. Continue breathing this way for the remainder of the meditation.
Feel the warmth of the candle and the shadows around the room. Visualize every shadow being cast, one by one, until you can see each of them clearly in your mind’s eye.
Visualize yourself pulling all of the shadows closer to you with each breath. Breathe in, and they come closer, breathe out and they retreat to their original positions, getting closer and closer to your nose with each breath you take. Then, breathe them in.
Visualize the shadows entering your nose, filling your sinuses, traveling down your throat, into your lungs, and dissipating into your bloodstream. Continue visualize breathing in the shadows until your entire body is filled with shadow, and you become one with the darkness in the room.
Feel yourself drop. If you physically go limp, allow it to happen, but safely. Slowly lower yourself to the ground if you are able, or feel yourself fully relax into your chair. Visualize floating in the dark. Allow your thoughts to come, but do not grasp them. Allow them to float away just as they came. Immerse yourself in the power of the darkness, allow it to blanket you, to flow freely through you.
Stay here as long as you need. You may cry, scream, or simply smile. You may also fall asleep. This meditation is meant to help you process your emotions and recharge. Think about what you need. Vent to the darkness, brag to the darkness, whatever you need.
Once you feel recharged and complete, rise back to your original position, take a few more deep breaths, and stand (if you are able) before the lit candle once more. Recite the Sith code:
Peace is a lie, there is only passion
Through passion, I gain strength
Through strength, I gain power
Through power, I gain victory
Through victory, my chains are broken
The Force shall free me
Blow out the candle to conclude the ritual. Exit your ritual space and face the rest of your day recharged and full with the Force.
